Alfred "Sassy Doc" Manuszak was one of Philadelphia's largest and most infamous gamblers/bookmakers.  Throughout his criminal career Manuszak raked up nearly 40 arrest.  In January 1955 (the same year as this mugshot), Manuszak shot and killed fellow gambler, Elmer "Germantown Whitey" Krieger. Manuszak was charged with homicide but his attorney convinced the court he acted in self-defense.
