I bought the linen press at the US Federal Marshals Service Madoff II Auction, held in New York City on November 13, 2010. The auction catalogue describes the linen press as:
George II Burl Inlaid Walnut Linen Press; English, early to mid 18th century; substantially altered; very faded; replaced hardware and poor quality renovations.
Alterations include the addition of a sliding drawer and a hole in the back to hold a television that was in the bedroom of the Madoffs’ penthouse on the upper east side of Manhattan.
The linen press is a beautiful piece of furniture anyway, sold in as is condition.
