ORANGE * 1876 CENTENNIAL Patriotic Kerchief PRESIDENT GRANT * MEDALS & 3 Bldgs
This auction is for a very nice patriotic cotton handkerchief from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia.   A variant of this handkerchief is pictured on page 203 (textile 426) in the classic book
Threads of History
(Smithsonian Institution Press, 1979).  The book image calls this an undetermined brown/orange color but this one is definitely orange.  The kerchief has dimensions approximately 28” wide x 22 ⅝” high and the design includes  vignettes of George Washington, President US Grant, the obverse & reverse of the Official Centennial Medal, and large images of 3 primary Exhibition buildings: Memorial Hall, Main Building, and Agricultural Hall.   The overall condition is Fine with light wear & soiling, tack holes at the corners, a small hole at the lower right below Agricultural Hall, and some staining in the lower right.  Please look at all the photos and ask any questions.  See my other auctions - combine shipping and save.
