    This listing is for a very rare silver plated copper paperweight designed and manufactured by James W Tufts of Boston Massachusetts. James W Tufts (1835 to 1902) was well known for starting the arctic soda fountain company which had a sizable display at the 1876 centennial exhibition in Philadelphia. He also Founded Pinehurst North Carolina. The paperweight is 8 1/4 inches high and has a patent design date of February 22, 1876. The design includes a bust of Lady liberty on top of a column that has the declaration of independence in raised text and an engraved monument base measuring two and three-quarter inches square. On the front side of the base is engraved “manufactured by James W Tufts Boston Massachusetts design patent is February 22, 1876. “ The other three sides of the base have engraved historical vignettes including: Columbus Landing, signing of the Declaration of Independence and the death of General Warren at Bunker Hill. Condition is exceptional with very light wear and and excellent patina. I will leave the polishing to the new owner if they so choose.
